USSC Director of Foreign Policy and Defence Professor Peter Dean talks to ABC about discussions surrounding Japan's involvement in the AUKUS pact. Professor Dean says that Japan would likely 'dock in' to one part of Pillar II of AUKUS, rather than a broad-based engagement across all lines of efforts.
In his view, this development is "a really strong signal about the US following through on its strategic intent, which is to empower its allies and partners to be able to effectively maintain a strategic balance in our region."
