USSC Foreign Policy and Defence Research Fellow Tom Corben talks to Sky News about reports that Japan could join the AUKUS security pact. Corben says that Japan has shown it has “niche technological advantages” to bring to the table, in fields including quantum, unmanned systems, cyber security and artificial intelligence.

“These are all things that the AUKUS countries are already looking at through pillar two. So, bringing a close strategic partner like Japan into the fold, not withstanding some of the information security risks that remain there, makes a lot of sense.”
